Besides being famous for Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa is also known for its spectacular riversides: the paths along the river Arno. The riversides are both important meeting places for young Pisan, is interesting landmarks for tourists. Host important buildings dating from the Middle Ages, which were transformed, then, over the centuries. Although buildings, bridges, towers and churches today take a Renaissance look, the eye of tourists who will not escape the backbone of medieval mark. Among the many riversides, the best known is the Medicean one which includes major historic buildings, like the Palazzo Medici, Palazzo Toscanelli and the Church of St. Matthew in Soarta. Here there are also several pubs, restaurants and bars in which to spend pleasant evenings. Every 16 June, on the occasion of the celebrations of the patron saint, there is the Luminara di San Ranieri: the riversides are illuminated by numerous candles which enhance the outlines of all the buildings, creating a play of light and color.
